Key responsibilities
As an Accounting Technician, you will be an integral part of our firm’s day‑to‑day operations. You will demonstrate your professionalism by ensuring time budgets and file deadlines are met, while continuing to develop your technical accounting expertise and contributing to the overall success of our firm.
Accounting and tax responsibilities
- Calculate and prepare cheques for payroll
- Calculate fixed assets and depreciation
- Keep financial records and establish, maintain and balance various accounts using manual and computerized bookkeeping systems
- Maintain general ledgers and financial statements
- Post journal entries
- Prepare other statistical, financial and accounting reports
- Prepare tax returns, including GST returns, personal income tax returns and corporate income tax returns
- Prepare trial balance of books
- Reconcile accounts
Audit responsibilities
- Preparation of working paper files for audit, review and compilation engagements
- Substantive testing on audit files
Client support and firm growth
- Communicating with clients about their business and personal information as you work through the files
- Growing to understand our clients’ businesses and identifying and presenting possible solutions to supervisors for accounting and tax issues you encounter
- Creating time efficiencies and managing multiple deadlines
- Contributing to our positive team dynamic with all levels of staff and management
Key requirements
- Minimum one year of experience working with aspects of an accounting system beyond the AP/AR role
- Prior education including tax and accounting systems courses or equivalent experience
- Working knowledge of Taxprep, Caseware Financials and Sage 50/QuickBooks
- Effective communication skills
- Dedication to client service
- High ethical standards
